Ofsted Recognises the Strength of Deptford Green School

Deptford Green School is delighted to share its latest Ofsted report, which recognises the significant strengths of the school and the positive experiences of its students.

Under Ofsted's new inspection framework, the school achieved a Strong judgement for Attendance and Behaviour and met the Expected standard across all remaining inspection areas, with safeguarding fully meeting requirements.

Inspectors explained during feedback that the new framework sets a substantially higher bar than previous inspection arrangements. Whilst direct comparisons should be treated carefully, they were clear that schools meeting the Expected standard are demonstrating a high level of effectiveness, with Strong reserved for areas performing beyond that demanding benchmark.

The report celebrates the school's inclusive ethos and strong sense of community, noting:

"Pupils quickly develop a strong sense of belonging because inclusion and equity underpin everyday school life."

Inspectors also highlighted the positive culture across the school:

"The school fosters a welcoming community where pupils feel valued."

    "Pupils demonstrate consistently positive behaviour."

"Staff consistently reinforce the school's high expectations, creating calm and purposeful classrooms where pupils learn without disruption."

The school's commitment to inclusion was also recognised, with inspectors praising The Base and its support for pupils with autism spectrum disorder.

    Headteacher Emma Thurston said:

"I am incredibly proud of this outcome. The report reflects the dedication of our staff, students, governors and families, and recognises the inclusive culture we have worked so hard to build. Most importantly, it highlights a school where young people feel they belong, achieve well and are well prepared for their futures."

Whilst recognising many strengths, the report also identified a small number of areas where the school can refine and develop its provision further. These priorities align closely with improvement work already underway.

The school would like to thank all members of the Deptford Green community for their continued support and contribution to this achievement.
