  • Mobile Phone Policy

We understand that pupils will have their mobile devices with them in school but they must not be seen or heard throughout the day.

Phones must be kept in a students' bag and not on their person. The school cannot accept responsibility for any mobile device brought on to the school premises and in possession of a student. If a mobile phone or air pods / headphones are either seen or heard, the procedures below will be followed.

    • First confiscation: 30-minute after-school reflection.

    • Second confiscation: Full day in the Reflection Room until 4:00pm, accompanied by a parent/carer meeting.

    • Third or subsequent confiscation: Off-site reflection at another secondary school or a fixed-term suspension, accompanied by a parent/carer meeting.

If a student refuses to hand over a mobile phone when requested by a member of staff, this will be treated as defiance and will result in a more serious sanction, such as suspension or off-site reflection.

On very rare and specific occasions, a teacher may give explicit instructions regarding the time-limited use of mobile phones.  This will only be the case when use of a device directly supports assessment requirements and learning outcomes (uploading photos, for example). In these rare cases, phones use can only be permitted when a teacher is in the same room and directly able to monitor use.  Phones must then be turned off and returned to the student’s bag.

Please read Ms Thurston's letter to parents (below) regarding mobile phones in school.
