  • Discovery Days

Discovery Day is one of the most exciting highlights of our Year 9 curriculum!

Every Tuesday throughout the year, students dive into an inspiring rotation of creative subjects, including Dance, Drama, Theatre Design, Music, Music Technology, Design Technology, Food, Metalwork, Textiles, Photography and Art. Carefully spread across the year, this programme gives every student the chance to explore a rich range of disciplines and discover new talents, interests and ways of working.

The aim of Discovery Day is to open doors. Students are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks and experience subjects they might not usually encounter until GCSE level. It’s all about curiosity, confidence and creativity.

Beyond the classroom, Discovery Day truly comes to life through our whole-day trips and experiences. Students visit galleries, attend shows, explore creative spaces and engage with real-world career opportunities, bringing their learning to life in exciting and meaningful ways. These experiences help students make powerful connections between their studies and the wider world, giving them an authentic taste of where creativity can lead.

Discovery Day is about inspiration, exploration and possibility—and our students rise to the challenge every single week to 'discover' a potential hobby, interest or even, career!

    Programme:

Stage 1: A double lesson taster session, students complete each subject 3 times each with a different focus to give students a taste of what's to come in the year ahead.

Stage 2: A triple lesson masterclass, students spend one half of the day exploring one discipline and the other half with another, allowing for deeper dives into the learning experiences.

Stage 3: Student choice! Students choose their top 6 options to study over an 18 week period. They will then complete 6 half days in each subject allowing for a visceral learning experience where projects can be developed to a high standard.
