  • GREAT Wellness @ DG

At Deptford Green School, student wellness is central to everything we do because we believe that young people learn best when they feel safe, valued, healthy, and inspired. Academic success cannot be separated from emotional, physical, and social wellbeing. By prioritising wellness, we support students to develop confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of identity, enabling them to thrive both in school and beyond. When students feel well, they are more engaged, motivated, and empowered to reach their full potential.

The strong sense of shared values underpins our community. Our GREAT values - Growth, Respect, Equity, Accountability and Togetherness - guide behaviour, relationships, and learning, ensuring a positive, inclusive culture where every student feels safe, valued, and supported and underpins our commitment to student wellbeing and success.

    • Growth - We encourage students to believe in themselves, embrace challenge, and develop resilience and a love of learning.
    • Respect - We promote positive relationships and a safe, inclusive environment where everyone feels valued.
    • Equity - We celebrate diversity and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities and support.
    • Accountability - Students are supported to take responsibility for their learning, actions, and wellbeing.
    • Togetherness - We foster a strong sense of community, belonging, and collaboration across our school.

Living our GREAT values helps every student feel supported, confident, and ready to thrive.

    How We Support Student Wellness

    Lifelong Engagement in the Arts

Creativity is central to our curriculum. Through music, drama, visual/performing arts, performances, exhibitions, Discovery and Dream Days as well as creative enrichment activities, students develop confidence, self-expression, and a lifelong connection to the arts that supports positive mental health and wellbeing.

    Emotional and Mental Wellbeing

We provide a strong personal development program including Form Time, Assemblies and PSHE, along with exceptional pastoral care, access to wellbeing support, mentoring, and safe spaces where students are listened to and supported to develop resilience, emotional literacy, and healthy coping strategies. In addition, all our students have a named trusted adult that they can go and speak with should they ever need to.

    Physical Health and Active Lifestyles

A wide range of PE, sports, clubs, and enrichment opportunities encourage students to stay active, build teamwork skills, and develop healthy habits for life.

    Inclusion, Belonging, and Community

We celebrate diversity and actively promote inclusion through assemblies, student voice, enrichment programmes, community partnerships, charity events and our House system, ensuring every student feels valued and respected.

    Student Voice and Leadership

Students are encouraged to share their views, take on leadership roles, and contribute to school life, empowering them to take ownership of their wellbeing and personal development. The Votes for Schools program supports this and encourages discussion and voting on weekly topical questions.

By placing wellness at the heart of our school, we create a supportive, inspiring environment where every student can succeed and thrive.
