How much does it cost to take part in after-school clubs?
Currently, there is no charge for any of the afterschool and lunch clubs on offer. We are extremely fortunate to have amazing staff, generous with their time, expertise, and enthusiasm, and to also have access to some funding and partnerships that enable us to offer every club free of charge.

However, be aware that some activities are a one-off opportunity or might not be renewed or might have to be charged in the future if not enough people attend regularly.

Can students attend more than 1 club?
Yes, we want to see students getting involved and trying new things! We expect all students to take part in a minimum of 10 hours of enrichment each year. In some cases, if oversubscribed, we will prioritise students who did not previously attend.

My child is interested in 2 clubs, but they are on the same day. What should we do?
Your child could alternate or try both and then decide which one they will attend weekly. Schedule might also change in term 2 and 3, depending on staff availability (due to exam prep), new clubs available and students and parents’ feedback.

What time do the after-school clubs start?
Lessons end at 15:00 so to give everyone time to get to their club location, most clubs start at 15:05.

What time do the after-school clubs end?
Most clubs will be finishing at 16:15 and students are dismissed through reception but some, such as Envision usually finish at 16:30. The library is open until 16:45 and students are dismissed through reception.

Can students only attend if they have ‘signed up’?
Some clubs require signing up or are by invitation only and require parental consent, for example Envision. For most other clubs, go to the location on the day and join in or see the teacher or Ms Nembhard to let us know you would like to come. If it becomes oversubscribed, we might ask one group to take part this term and another to join next term.

Where should students go for the clubs?
Students should go to the location of the club (classroom, sports hall, library, careers hub, drama studio…) as indicated on the timetable. If the teacher leading the club is not there yet, be patient and give it a few minutes- they might have been delayed somewhere else. For sports clubs, students should go to the Sports Hall building to use the changing room.

What should students wear for after-school clubs?
Students remain in their uniform but for sports clubs and Dance club, students should bring their PE kit.

Are students provided with snacks before or after the clubs?
We suggest your child brings a refillable water bottle and a snack. We do not usually provide snacks although we sometimes have biscuits and squash in the library and careers hub clubs. In other clubs, students have been known to bring homemade biscuits and cakes.

Why are some clubs only offered on one day or only to some year groups or some students?
We have a different lunch break for Y7,9,11 and Y8,10. Lunchtime clubs can only run on the available lunch break of the member of staff running it and most teachers have a full timetable. Similarly, after school, we have to consider the staff and the space available. For some activities, we prioritise students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to take part and/or students who would most benefit.

Will there be individual instrument lessons?
Individual music lessons are available during the day. Students and parents should receive information from the Music department.

Will there be different sports offered?
Thank you for all your previous brilliant suggestions of different sports you would like to see available to try or to continue. We aim to rotate different afterschool sports clubs during the academic year to vary the offer and engage students in being active for pleasure and well-being as well as competitive sports. Please, bear with us as we are working within financial and physical constraints such as space, facilities, and weather. For example, we do not have a swimming pool on site nor do we currently have the resources to take students swimming after school.

My child cannot see anything on the timetable that they are interested in, what do you suggest?
We encourage students to develop resilience and take risks with their learning by trying new activities. We also thank  you for all suggestions for activities you and your child would like to see at Deptford Green. Your suggestions will  continue to inform our planning.

In the meantime, please look at the schedule carefully as we might already have a club linking to your child’s interest. Look out for regular updates as some new clubs will start later in the year.
Lastly, be aware that as well as regular afterschool clubs, we have opportunities for short programmes and one-off enrichment events and careers linked visits, such as theatre trips or industry insights and tasters. For example, we are looking forward to going to The Barbican in November for an exciting Jazz concert.

Thank you for taking the time to read. #BEGREAT
