Friends of Deptford Green (FODG)

Welcome to Deptford Green School

This information has been put together by The Friends of Deptford Green especially for you, our wonderful school community.  Studies show that there’s a direct link between parental involvement and how well children do, so why not get involved from the start!

Why do we have a parent group?

We are fortunate at our school to have a Friends of Deptford Green group (FODG) that’s becoming more and more, an integral part of our school community. Over the last few years, the group has managed to raise over £10,000 which has been put back into the school and used to enhance the opportunities and experiences of our students. We have recently launched the Sir Keith Adjegbo Fund - click HERE to find out more - and the FODG group has a voice on the working party that decides where the money from the fund is spent.

Our FODG group is about much more than simply fundraising. The Friends of Deptford Green group exists to provide closer links between home and school, and is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal. We are a small but friendly bunch and are always on the lookout for more parents to join our merry band, so do get in touch if you are interested in getting involved at all! All parents and members of the school community are encouraged to get involved, even if they only have a small amount of time available.

Role of the committee

Our current Committee consists of 2 Co-Chairs, a Treasurer, a Secretary and 3 trustees.  We are always keen to grow our committee membership and welcome anyone who would be interested in joining the committee. Committee members are elected at our AGM meetings each year. If you are interested, please email friendsofdeptfordgreen@gmail.com

The Committee also hold open meetings at various points (mainly for planning events) and any parent can take part, find out what the group are planning, share ideas and get involved. Our meetings are currently generally online via Zoom with meetings face to face where possible. We will post our next committee meeting on this page when the next one is arranged and will also advertise it in the school newsletter.

Volunteers

We welcome any help from parents, teachers and friends, and have a growing list of volunteers who commit some of their time to helping the group. 'Every little helps' as the saying goes, so just one hour of assisting at events or wrapping lucky dip prizes or folding raffle tickets (just a few examples) would be invaluable. If you would like to join us, please speak to a committee member, come along to our next meeting or email us at friendsofdeptfordgreen@gmail.com.

How we raise money

Like most PTAs, the majority of our funds are raised through the events that we run.  Some of our most popular events are:

  • The Christmas Fair
  • Maydayz Fair (on Saturday May 16th 2026)
  • Pre-loved Uniform Sales
  • Bar & Refreshment sales alongside school main events
  • A Cafe at Parents’ Evenings
  • Various other events along the way

Donations from parents are extremely important to us.  You can donate time, money, items for sale, raffle prizes, auction lots or offers of services and skills. Again if you wish to donate, please contact friendsofdeptfordgreen@gmail.com.

How we keep you up to date

We provide a FODG update in our school newsletters. This includes information on upcoming events and dates, as well as details of the help we are looking for at said events, and we will occasionally email you directly through the school email system where necessary.

We have a Whatsapp group for each cohort in the school where we post regularly if we need your help or if there is any news. In those chats, you are also able to ask questions of other parents and that way, hopefully, you will get more or less immediate answers. If you would like to join a WhatsApp Group, please see below:
