Safer Schools Officer

All secondary schools have an appointed Safer Schools Officer (SSO).

Deptford Green's SSO is Gary Arterton. Gary has worked at Deptford Green School for 10 years

The role of SSO is designed to:-

• Develop positive relationships between young people and the Police.
• Provide visible reassurance before , during and after school.
• Work alongside the school and parents in early intervention, preventing young people becoming either victims or perpetrators of crime.
• Liaise with partners and other policing departments to deter young people becoming involved with any negative influences that might be within the local area
• Encourage young people to use their leisure time wisely.

In addition, Gary also runs  a free boxing scheme in partnership with Double Jab Boxing Club on Thursday 4 to 6pm term time only - (based next door to Moonshot on Fordham Park) and promote Police Cadets who are based at Deptford Green School on Thursday evenings.
