On Tuesday 15th January 2019, 15 Year 10 students from Deptford Green School were invited to the launch of Envision’s Community-Apprentice programme, a 13-week inter-school competition across Lewisham. The competition requires each team to run an awareness-raising and fundraising project for their chosen charity in their school and a partner business. They will receive support along the way from a dedicated team of business mentors from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, as well as weekly in-school guidance from their Envision Coach. Throughout the programme the young people develop key employability skills such as confidence, determination and teamwork.
Our group of young people, now known as ‘Team Endurance’ heard from four fantastic local charities each tackling different social issues before deciding which to support. The team chose Settle, a charity which works to prevent youth homelessness. They also met their business mentors for the first time and we are all very excited to see what ideas our team comes up with and how they develop on the programme!
