Our wonderful and supportive Inclusion Team have put this together for you to enjoy! Thanks to everyone who contributed.
MEET SOME NEW MEMBERS OF THE TEAM!
Hello all, I am Mr Cregan, I work as a Learning Support Assistant at the school and have a background in drama and acting. After working in a care home and then after time at drama school, I worked as a Camp Counsellor. It became clear that care and education were two key aspects of any role that I wanted to be involved in. I moved to London in late November 2024 and got a job here at Deptford Green! Doing my due diligence and seeing it was a creative arts school and a good Ofsted-rated school, I was pleased to be given an opportunity to work here. I feel very honoured to be a part of the inclusion team and the whole staff body. I very much look forward to getting even more involved with all that is going on at Deptford Green and meeting you all.
My name is Ms Mohammed and as an LSA here at Deptford Green, I assist individuals and small groups within the classroom, adapt resources and offer encouragement to build students’ confidence and independence. I am pleased to be part of a welcoming school community where the majority of students are motivated to learn and staff work together to make a positive difference. After having worked in the primary sector, I can truly say that I have found my calling and I look forward to making an impact in this creative and vibrant school community.
Y10 BUBBLE WORLD TRIP

Staff: Ms Osorio (LSA), Ms Hassen (LSA) and Ms Edwards (LSA)
Students: Noshai, Niang and Florence
We are incredibly proud of our group of Y10 resource base students, who recently stepped out of their comfort zone to attend a special end-of-term trip, recognising their positive efforts and outstanding behaviour throughout the year. The trip was not just a celebration of their achievements, but also a testament to their growth, resilience, and willingness to try new experiences. These students represented Deptford Green with pride, maturity, kindness and teamwork every step of the way. Their participation is a true reflection of the inclusive, supportive spirit of our school community. It was a joyful and memorable day for everyone involved.
LEGO THERAPY HAS BEGUN!

We’re excited to share that our resource base has started LEGO Therapy sessions! This fun, hands-on therapeutic approach, helps students build social and communication skills through teamwork and play. Stay tuned for updates, tips, and success stories as we build together - brick by brick!

LITERACY NEWS

Above are images from a literacy bingo session that turned recall into an exciting, interactive challenge! Students rotated around the room, where literacy questions and prompts were posted at different stations. Tasks including decoding riddles and identifying rhyming words as well as recalling storylines before shouting BINGO, made the session exciting, practical and fun. In addition, this session not only strengthened the students’ ability to recall information, it also demonstrated their independent learning skills as they tapped into their prior knowledge.

AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH EVENTS

During the last week of term, our pupils in the Resource Base completed a 5K fundraising walk around Fordham Park. The event was designed to raise money for the National Autistic Society as part of Autism Acceptance Month. The students completed multiple laps of the park and enjoyed the time together whilst celebrating the positive aspects of autism that often go overlooked.
If you would like to contribute a donation, please contact Mx Landon at rlandon@deptfordgreen.co.uk or Ms Parkinson at mparkinson@deptfordgreen.co.uk
Mx Landon, our Resource Base Lead, also conducted assemblies for Y7-10 about Autism Acceptance. This included voices of our students and what they would like others to know.
KS4 STUDY SKILLS

Our Y11 Resource Base students have been busy preparing for their upcoming GCSE exams. Thank you to Ms Parkinson, Ms Falkowska and Mx Landon for providing additional 1:1 interventions for English and Maths to ensure our pupils feel ready and confident to tackle the final leg of their secondary school journey!
KS4/3 RB SOCIAL SKILLS
Mx Landon has been working with Y10 Resource base students to support their social interactions during morning break and lunchtimes. Students were allowed to invite one friend to join them in the Resource Base during morning break or lunch. It is wonderful to see that students who previously felt isolated and who would spend breaks alone, are now excited to spend time with their friends in a safe and sensory supportive environment. During these times, we also work on how to navigate friendship issues, how to maintain friendships and how to consider other people’s perspectives and feelings in a social context. Such a great win for our students!
HOMEWORK CLUB

Homework club is open to each year group. The club runs every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 15:00 – 16:00. Ms Edwards, Resource Base LSA, is at the homework club every Tuesday and highlights that it's designed to be a safe, supportive and productive space for students to come together outside of school hours to get help with completing their homework. We are intent on ensuring that students feel welcome and encouraged to improve their academic performance. Also, all the LSA's that run the homework club - Mr Cregan, Ms Wills, Ms Khan, Ms Mohammed - work hard to create a positive learning environment that helps our students to build good study habits. It is a great way to get additional support so that all students can keep on top of schoolwork!
We are so grateful to all of the LSAs that contribute to the homework club and they in turn, are all incredibly proud of all the students that attend.
Y7 GET INTO THE GREEN
What does a pent-up gymnast say? “I’M GONNA FLIP OUT!”

Shoutout to Lukis on being amongst the top 25 students for attendance and securing themselves a place on the Get into the Green trip to Flip Out in vibrant Canary Wharf. All our students represented the school with the utmost enthusiasm and they thoroughly enjoyed the ride on the DLR. Lukis kept a brilliant level of composure when finding out that most of the lifts were broken and did not panic (unlike me, the anxious LSA). He especially enjoyed “the prettiest light show” as well as getting to cool off with a refreshing mango ice slushie. Then, as another cherry on top and being the trustworthy student he is, Lukis was allowed to visit the shops and glimpse how the other half lives! Lukis’ comments include: “Why would you pay money to smell like an orange?” and “Who has that much money to buy that jacket?” Afterwards we went on to enjoy the finest cuisine that Greggs had to offer (with the killer combo of a steak bake and doughnut). it was a “10 out of 10 day for sure.”
Thanks again to everyone involved who created an amazing experience for our students.
LITERACY INTERVENTIONS
I am excited to share with you the positive impact of our literacy interventions, an intervention adapted for students who require additional support for their reading and comprehension skills. This term, we have seen a significant impact with the students’ reading ages, attitude to learning and engagement during group discussions.
The literacy intervention is tailored to improve the students’ reading skills, build confidence, resilience and learn coping strategies. The literacy lessons are interactive and engaging, using individual and whole-class reading to build confidence readers. Strategies such as summarising, analysing text, phonics, predicting, critical thinking, grammar, assessment practice using Point Evidence and Explanation (PEE) methods and annotating poems/text will help the students to use their skills across the curriculum.
BUILDING CONFIDENT READERS
Regular reading assessments such as the Accelerated Reader Program help us to monitor the students’ growth and confidence. To help the students to focus on becoming confident readers, reading homework and weekly library lessons have been introduced to the students, so that they can eventually return to mainstream lessons.
SPRING TERM
Last term we focused on the play “Our Day Out” by Willy Russel. The students enjoyed reading the play and putting on accents for the different characters. We spoke about what life was like in Liverpool in the 1970’s and the students were shocked by the lack of technology available, and the treatment pupils received in school. The students learned about the structure of plays, dialogue, stage directions and action.
