We Are Looking for New Parent Governors

We currently have 2 vacancies for parent governors on our governing body, which are open to all parents and guardians.

We encourage any parents who wish to become involved in shaping and guiding the progress of the school to nominate themselves. You are also able to nominate other parents you think may be suitable.

The governing body is a group of volunteers who play a key role in ensuring that the school is managed in the best interests of the young people who attend it. Governors support school leaders by determining the ethos and strategic aims of the school, setting challenging targets, monitoring performance and overseeing the school budget.

There is a full meeting of all governors once a term and there are three governor committees that also meet termly:

1. School and community committee
2. Teaching, learning and assessment committee
3. Resources committee

In addition, governors, take on individual roles linked to some aspect of the school provision such as Special Educational Needs (SEN), safeguarding, pupil achievement, etc.

Governors also appoint the headteacher and often play a role in other senior appointments. They also support the school’s disciplinary process as members on pupil disciplinary panels.

Governors are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds. Some are parents of pupils at the school, others live and/or work in the borough and there is a range of expertise among the governors in education, business and public services. The headteacher and a member of the school’s teaching staff are also members of the governing body.

Under the School Governance (Constitution) (England) Regulations 2012 or the School Governance (Federations) (England) Regulations 2012 certain people are disqualified from serving as school governors. The details provided above (on page 2) give information on those ineligible to serve as school governors. Please see the attached document at the bottom of this page to check eligibility criteria.
