Our 2-year Key Stage 4 curriculum is designed to maximise achievement for students so that they can progress to further study and work. The school has designed pathways for its students at Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11). The pathways are decided based on students’ prior attainment in their subjects from when they started at the school. At the end of Year 9, we work with parents/carers to enable pupils to make appropriate course choices. We ensure students take courses that are suitable for them and give them the best possible chance of success. All students in KS4 study a core of required subjects.
Pathway 1 is for students with the highest prior attainment across the board, especially in core areas. They will pick either Geography or History, then continue with either French or Spanish (depending on which language they have studied at Key Stage 3) and finally a further GCSE or Level 2 vocational course of their choice. This pathway will lead to students obtaining the English Baccalaureate.
Pathway 2 is for students who have a preference for a range of interests and a strong grounding across the board. They can choose either Geography, History, French or Spanish (depending on which language they have studied at Key Stage 3) and finally 2 GCSE or Level 2 vocational qualifications of their choice. All GCSEs and vocational courses are available to Pathway 2 students, although they should be careful to select options that play to their strengths.
Pathway 3 is for students who are suited to and prefer a range of creative and practical subjects. They can choice Geography, History, French or Spanish and finally 2 GCSEs (from a selected range) or vocational qualifications of their choice. The selected GCSEs available to Pathway 3 students are more practical and require fewer written outcomes.
Additional support and guidance are given to students who have additional needs from the Inclusion Faculty.
