Design and Technology

In design and technology pupils combine practical and technological skills, becoming discriminating users of products.
They are encouraged to think creatively and intervene to improve the quality of life, solving problems as individuals and members of a team.
They are taught to combine practical, theory and design skills, leading them to become strong, independent technologists.
Projects focus on an introduction and progression of tools, material, processes and techniques which promotes an understanding of the iterative design cycle.
Students are encouraged to make products and systems that meet human needs.
They apply their creative thinking and learn to innovate, while working with current technologies, and considering the impact of future technological developments.
Students work in stimulating contexts that provide a range of opportunities, which can draw on the local ethos, community and wider world issues.
Students are encouraged to respond to tasks with ideas, products, systems and challenge expectations where appropriate.
