Natasha Cameron

Name: Natasha Cameron

Role: Head of Inclusion

Length of time at the school: 4 Years

What attracted you to your teaching / job role?

I always wanted to be a SENCO first and foremost, because of my own experiences at school and because of the things I had seen within education, that I did not feel were right, or I wanted to change.

When I attended St John’s Primary School in Lewisham, our year group had a strong connection with Greenvale School (special school) and I was placed with a young girl who had Cerebral Palsy. I loved every moment of the time spent with her and this experience shaped my passion to support, help, motivate and encourage – I am glad I made the choice I did.

What inspired you to work at Deptford Green? What makes this school unique?

I have lived in Lewisham all my life and vowed to forever work in a Lewisham School. I didn’t give it a second thought when the opportunity to work at Deptford Green came up, mainly because it is close to the area I grew up in.

It’s a unique school because of the children that attend and the staff that remain dedicated to providing the best experience for any child that attends.

Deptford Green is my fourth Lewisham school and it’s uniqueness makes me want to retire here.

What do you enjoy most about working at Deptford Green?

I enjoy working at Deptford Green because the children, with the many challenges that some of them face, show resilience and always strive to find solutions to do better and change the course of their lives for the better.

What is unique about your role at the school?

I get to work with children and their families, staff and other professionals outside of the school, whose aim it is to improve the lives of our young people, but not just because it’s their job.

Of course, this is the aim of every person working in inclusion/in schools, but at Deptford Green I feel privileged to serve a community that works together to achieve the desired outcomes for young people.

What are your future ambitions? What do you hope to achieve during your time at DG?

My ambition is to retire at Deptford Green, safe in the knowledge that all pupils with needs are provided with excellent support and are given the best opportunities to succeed.

Tell us why pupils enjoy coming to Deptford Green?

Pupils want to come to Deptford Green because it is inclusive and our body of staff do their upmost to make adjustments to ensure that they fit in and are happy.
